Staying Motivated When Faced With Obstacles

Staying Motivated When Faced With Obstacles

It’s an age old question: How is it possible for a motivator to keep staying motivated when itโ€™s obvious they have their own obstacles? Trust me, as a motivational speaker, I have asked this of myself on many occasions. No matter who we are, we will all have our share of success and failure.

I have sat in my car, minutes before Iโ€™m about to speak or deliver workshops, knowing that I have to go and motivate people. But secretly, I wanted to turn around and go back to bed. Iโ€™ve been so close to crying off from a job, despite being sat right outside. But I never have. Why? Because, when you know how, you can flick a switch and hey presto, here comes the motivation! Boom.

When life is good, and youโ€™re achieving all your goals, staying motivated is easy. We might even find it difficult to understand how someone can be down in the dumps when life is being so good to you. But then, problems and obstacles enter your life and staying motivated might not be so easy.

Even the most renowned leaders and speakers need to find a way to overcome their obstacles.

There are many ways to overcome your obstacles and keep staying motivated. But as always, it is important to remember that there is no one perfect answer for everyone. You might need to do a bit of searching and find the way within yourself.

The challenge: staying motivated

It is helpful to try and understand whatโ€™s causing your fears and your obstacles. The reasons could be tangible, or they could be emotional. They could be real or imagined. Once youโ€™ve determined what your fears are, ask yourself what the worse case scenario could be.

If all your obstacles and fears become a reality, what would be the worse thing that could happen?

When you put things into perspective, the culmination of these events probably would not be the end of the world, or even your life.

Believe in your goals and yourself. You must believe that nothing can stop you. Try to analyse what exactly youโ€™re striving to achieve and what you stand to gain by achieving these goals. If you do not believe in what youโ€™re doing, youโ€™re on very likely to be on the wrong track. You might need to return to square one for reassessment.

It helps if you are able to learn to take action quickly, rather than thinking about what you need to overcome. Visualise yourself overcoming these obstacles and your triumph over them. Never put off taking decisive action no matter how small and seemingly insignificant. Every little helps!

Stay motivated with success

Even the smallest success will build up belief in yourself and your ability to succeed.

Obstacles have many faces and we must decide how we can stare them down. If the size of the obstacles is too large for you to handle, break it down into smaller chunks.

Remain cheerful and positive and watch the size of the problem diminish. Itโ€™s the old rule of mind over matter, or obstacles if you will. Refuse to let negative thoughts rule your brain. Because, given half a chance, they totally will.

Stay inspired. You can do this by reading inspirational books, watching motivational videos or taking courses. Your environment should consist of inspirational people and things. Our surroundings enable us to become what we are.

Obstacles are inevitable, but how we deal with them is not. We can choose to overcome and be happy, or we can be miserable.

Donโ€™t dwell on self-doubt. Are your fears realities or something you fear might happen if you fail to take proper action?

Life happens, and stuff will always get in the way. Everyone in this world, at some point, has had trouble staying motivated. But the most important thing to remember is that you have a choice. When something comes along and sucks the motivation out of you, you can let go and give up, or you can yank it back!
